Registering for ECPAC Sessions

In-person Sessions

These sessions are held in a hotel meeting room, usually between noon and 1 pm, on the third Wednesday of nine months of the year. Ticket price includes parking and a buffet meal.

NOTE: In-person events have been suspended until Covid-19 abates so restrictions for indoor events can be lifted by the Alberta and Calgary governments.

Only Members can register for luncheons. Payment is only accepted online online with a credit card.

Members can bring non-member guests to luncheons. The member must register her or his guest when registering themselves. Non-members may attend up to two (2) luncheons as a guest.

Non-members wanting to attend a luncheon must contact a member, an ECPAC executive, or the ECPAC Administrator to be registered as a guest. 

Online Sessions

These are held online using Zoom meeting software. Attendees do not need to have their own Zoom account.

Non-members may attend up to two (2) online sessions. They may register and pay for themselves. Payments must be made online using a credit card. 

Refunds 

Refunds are given ONLY if the ECPAC cancels the session.

    ECPAC 2021 Annual General Meeting

    Please take note that:

    • This is an ECPAC members-only event. No guests please.
    • This will be a hybrid in-person and online Zoom event. 
    • In-person attendees are required to prove their full Covid-19 vaccination to participate. A hotel employee will be checking for proof.
    • Online Zoom attendees will have the ability to to participate in the meeting to ask questions and express opinions

    11 am to 12 pm - Annual General Meeting

    • Review of 2021 with ECPAC President Vartika Satija
    • Treasurer David Kissinger will review the ECPAC's fiscal 2021 audited financial statements
      • NOTE: You may download the financials to review them before the AGM; to do this, click here
    • Motion to accept fiscal 2021 audited financial statements
    • Nominations for and elections to the 2022 ECPAC Board of Directors for the following positions:
      • President Elect
      • Treasurer
      • Professional Development
      • Communications & Member Relations
      • Secretary
    Your ECPAC needs your support. Please put your name forward for a role on the Board of Directors. If you want to know more, please contact Vartika Satija, ECPAC President.

    12 to 1 pm - Lunch & Socialize
    • In-person attendees will enjoy a fabulous buffet meal, with wine available, FREE, as a thank-you from your ECPAC
    • Network and mingle with other ECPAC members to catch up and share pandemic stories!

    Registration cutoff is:

    • In-person: 3:00 PM on November 30, 2021
    • Online Zoom: 3:00 PM on December 6,2021

    No late registrants please. Registration must be completed prior to these times. If you register for the in-person event but do not attend, the ECPAC will invoice you $35. 

    This is a members-only event. Attendees must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19; the hotel will be checking. Please see the main events page for more details on registering.

    U.S. Tax Implications for Your Clients

    NOTE: LIKELY will be a Zoom online event. Please check back.

    Get up to speed on the tax implications for clients with U.S. tax implications. Krista will discuss the most common issues that your clients may be facing in 2022.

    1. Canadians holding US vacation and other property
    2. US citizens (i.e. Doctors) with Professional corps
    3. US beneficiaries in trust structures

    Speaker Spotlight: Krista Rabidoux

    Krista Rabidoux of Anderson Tax LLP is a Partner who works out of the Calgary and Edmonton offices. She has over 18 years of experience providing U.S., Canadian, and cross-border tax planning advice and compliance services to her clients. Krista works with businesses, individuals, and trusts to manage filing requirements in the U.S. and Canada.

    Her work includes:

    • Assisting U.S. citizens living outside of the U.S. to complete their filing obligations
    • Working with businesses that have operations outside of Canada to meet their worldwide compliance requirements
    • Advising on employer and employee obligations when working across borders
    • Analyzing tax laws and income tax treaties of various jurisdictions to come up with favorable tax solutions
    • Aiding professional athletes and artists with their ever evolving complex tax situations

    Wills: What You Need to Know for You and Your Clients

    NOTE: We don't yet know if this will be a Zoom online event, and/or an in-person event. Please check back.

    Our speaker, Lindsey Louro of McLeod Law LLP, will provide her expertise of what you need to know for you and for your clients in terms of:

    • Testamentary autonomy in Alberta
    • What revokes a will
    • Simple things like what is required to make a will in the province
    • What age are you able to make a will
    • Dying Intestate
    • Should registered plans and life insurance policies be listed in wills
    • What if you have a corporation, use of dual wills is used in other provinces – use in Alberta
    • How forgiveness of debt can be incorporated into the will
    • Requirement for wills with assets in other provinces, or assets in AB
    • Use of multiple Testamentary trusts for children
    • Differences for spouses or “common-law”
    • Power of Attorney’s – springing, etc.
    • Health Care Directives

    Lindsey has been practicing since 2012 and joined the Wills, Trusts, and Estates group at McLeod Law in 2019. Lindsey is also a member of STEP Canada (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) with TEP status through the completion of the STEP Diploma.

    She loves to assist clients in exploring their estate plans to create comprehensive Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, and Personal Directives that feel right for each of her clients and to ensure that their wishes and intentions are understood and conveyed in their planning documents.

    Lindsey is the Chair for the Canadian Bar Association, Wills, Estates, and Trusts Section (National), and a member of the executive of the Canadian Bar Association, Wills, Estates, and Trust Section (Alberta South).

    Lindsey loves hockey, cycling, reading, rainy days, and spending time with her family.
